Trip 2 in the Goldie was to the DPAW managed Warner Glen bush camp, on the Blackwood River, not far from Margaret River. Being September we were hoping for some clear weather and we got lucky, clear(‘ish) days and cool nights made for perfect camping conditions, topped off by a roaring fire at night. This trip was also the first time we used our new Hobie kayak and we had a great peddle down the Blackwood on the Saturday. All in all about 9kms return so we were well and truly ready for our wine and cheese/nibbles for lunch when we got back to camp. Everything worked well, van was great, kayak didn’t sink and did I mention the campfire?
Warner Glen has a bunch of camping sites serviced by a couple of bush toilets (drop dunnies) and for the first night (Friday) we had the whole campground to ourselves. On the Saturday another two families turned up but the campground is large enough that we couldn’t easily see or hear each other so you really feel like you’re pretty remote and have the place to yourself.
For the fishing inclined, there’s some good Bream fishing to be had on the Blackwood however we didn’t bother with fishing gear on this trip seeing as it was our first time out in the kayak.
Trip 2 down and we’re really start to feel comfortable with the van, including towing, packing and setting it up. We also loved the yak’ing although our legs let us know we were using muscles we didn’t know we had..
We spent the majority of the trip home discussing and planning our next trips..
